We won silver in the EcoVadis sustainability assessment!

We achieved the Silver level of the EcoVadis assessment, something only 15 per cent of the assessed companies could do. The EcoVadis assessment is a third-party certification of our genuine efforts to achieve sustainability.

We improved our score from our previous Bronze level through active development to clear the Silver level with flying colours in 2024

“We’re more than happy to win silver as we’ve worked hard on our sustainability. It’s great to see our efforts bear fruit, and our great score is proof that we’ve focused on the right things,” says Eija Halonen, Quality Manager at Sarlin.

What is EcoVadis?

The EcoVadis assessment comprehensively analyses a company’s

  • Sustainability in purchasing.

EcoVadis uses internationally recognised criteria for its sustainable development assessments. The criteria are based on multiple notable international initiatives, such as

  2. International Labour Organisation conventions
  3. Global Reporting Initiative
  4. ISO 26000

The system produces a fact-based analysis of the company’s current sustainability and a plan for the company to continuously improve its sustainability. The analysis is comprehensive and objective.

We beat 89 per cent of the companies reviewed

The scoring criteria had been tightened for this round of assessments, and we still managed to achieve the Silver level and a higher score than 89 per cent of the companies reviewed. Our total score was 68 out of 100.

We steadily improved our score in all areas, and compared to our last assessment, we did especially well because of our improved documentation, measurements and reporting.

We were especially strong in environmental sustainability – our solutions help our customers reduce their carbon footprint. For example, we provide solutions for significantly improving the energy efficiency of industrial compressed air systems and replacing fossil fuels with environmentally friendly gas. We also have a strong presence in green hydrogen projects, for example.

In addition, we invest heavily in sustainable procurement channels, well-being at work and safety.

“We are committed to sustainable development in all areas, not just one,” says Halonen.

Our sustainability is built on three core pillars:

  • Healthy environment and sustainable development. We develop environmentally friendly and energy-efficient solutions while reducing the environmental load of our own operations.
  • Happy work community and satisfied stakeholders. Occupational safety and well-being at work are the key to profitable business and high customer satisfaction.
  • Good governance in all activities.

Our sustainability working group ensures that we always have an eye on the theme of sustainability and that we take the correct actions to reach our sustainability goals.

External sustainability assessments mean operational transparency

Ours is a family business that has focused on sustainable operations for decades, so introducing a sustainability assessment was a natural step for us. We wish to prove transparently that we are working continuously to improve multiple areas of sustainability. EcoVadis gives us trustworthy external verification. Our EcoVadis score is credible proof for our customers and partners that they can trust us to take sustainability seriously and keep developing our sustainability measures continuously.

“This award lets us demonstrate our level of sustainability to different stakeholders. Having an independent party review our operations increases transparency,” says Halonen.

Developing sustainability takes continuous cooperation

We believe that one reason for our excellent sustainability score is our principle of working together. We take sustainability beyond individuals and teams – our personnel are committed as a whole to the measures that proved successful in the EcoVadis assessment.

“Our EcoVadis achievement was made possible by all of our employees. With sustainability integrated into all activities, the sense of working together takes us towards our goals,” says Halonen.
