Gas safety at Liedon Vesi

Liedon Vesi, the utility responsible for the water supply and sewage of the municipality of Lieto in Finland, uses Sarlin instruments for continuous hydrogen sulphide monitoring. Handy pocket-size personal detectors give reliable results instantly and improve occupational safety.

Before purchasing detectors from Sarlin, Liedon Vesi was looking for a good solution for the continuous monitoring of hydrogen sulphides specifically. The aim was to provide maintenance technicians with a reliable and safe way to take measurements.

- When maintenance technicians need to visit a pumping station, for example, a pocket model like this gives them confidence. It serves our occupational safety to verify concentrations immediately. Occupational safety is the reason why we have these devices, says Aki Teini, Water Services Manager at Liedon Vesi.

Minimising odour nuisance

Hydrogen sulphide corrodes concrete surfaces, among other things. Its odour is also a nuisance.

- Because town planning is allocating residential areas closer to pumping stations and trunk lines, we must be able to minimise nuisance odours, says Teini.

Help and support is always available

Water utilities must remain functional even in exceptional circumstances. This is one reason why Teini highly appreciates seamless cooperation with Sarlin and other partners.

- Sarlin is always available to help and support us with any questions, for example. It’s been great to see that they value cooperation and smaller customers as well. They appreciate every partner, says Teini.

- Cooperation works well with the right people, says Teini, summing up.
