Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto Oy is at the forefront of waste disposal utilities in improving Finland’s bioeconomy and circular economy. The number one objective for Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto is to build an efficient and environmentally friendly future based on the circular economy.
Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto Oy – microturbine turns biogas into heat and power
Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto Oy receives Europe’s largest LFG microturbine station
LFG recovery technology replacement at Tarastenjärvi
Sarlin delivered a complete system with a combined microturbine unit and biogas pumping station as well as a discrete biogas pumping station. The biogas pumping stations are used to feed gas to the turbine station and the Tammervoima power station.
The Capstone C1000 microturbine unit used at the Tarastenjärvi waste management facility is a low-emission combined heat and power (CHP) station. The microturbine unit uses modern environmentally friendly technology. It needs no oil, lubricants or coolants. The turbine unit can generate 1 MW of electricity and 1.5 MW of heat. The turbine package comprises five 200 kW turbines. The heat energy is used by the local buildings. The waste pre-treatment station uses the most electricity, but the facility produces enough to also feed the national grid.
Turnkey delivery
Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto purchased the microturbine station and pumping station from Sarlin as a turnkey delivery. Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto only needed to organise the excavation work and the necessary permits. Sarlin handled the design, construction, technology, and equipment. The companies have signed a maintenance contract.
Content of the turnkey station delivery:
Combination microturbine and biogas pumping station plus one discrete biogas pumping station
