Safe compressed air at Mäntyharju fire station

Designed for occupational safety

The new fire station of Mäntyharju in Finland is a dream come true for Executive Fire Officer Jukka Järvinen and dozens of contracted fire brigade members. Safety was a key starting point for the station’s design. Sarlin supplied the station with a safety cabinet for filling compressed air bottles as well as a breathing air compressor.

One essential starting point for the new fire station’s design was to increase occupational safety. The filling of compressed air bottles was therefore also considered during purchasing. Firefighters use compressed-air breathing apparatuses for smoke diving and hazardous materials (chemical) diving during fires and accidents. Mäntyharju station also has underwater rescue specialists.

A complete solution

The Mäntyharju station received a complete solution with a Bauer Mini-Verticus breathing air compressor and a remotely controlled Bauer B-Safe 300 safety filling cabinet, both fully installed and connected. Sarlin also handled the official permits and inspections as well as personnel training.

Safe compressed air bottle filling

The Bauer cabinet guarantees the safe filling of compressed air bottles. The cabinet can withstand bottle explosions and keeps any shrapnel safely inside. The cabinet doors feature a safety interlock that keeps them closed during filling and also prevents starting with the doors open.

At Mäntyharju, compressed air bottles can be easily filled on the ground floor in a dedicated filling room with a direct connection to the fire engine hall. The compressor is located on the second floor to keep it out of the way. The compressor is mounted in a sound-dampening basket. Thanks to its silent running, other work can be done in the same room with the compressor.
